Superfood blog post alert! Why not put on that red cape before stepping into the kitchen? What makes this post even better other than being a superfood one? There’s no cooking involved! Yup, I will say it again- NO COOKING, hallelujah!
Have you even heard the term Chia Pudding before?
I’m quite sure you’ve heard the term ‘Chia’ somewhere isn’t it?
Ok, so ‘Chia’ is actually a seed, just like you would say Mustard is a seed.
Chia is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Originally grown in South America, and what makes this superfood really stand out is these seeds also contain high amounts of the dietary minerals, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus and zinc (table). All these put together are more than half the contents of your daily supplement which of course is best taken in its natural form.
So, to keep it simple, let’s start with the basic Chia recipe, that’s quick and easy for you to make, I would suggest you do this just before heading to bed since Chia needs to soak up in some liquid and it takes a coupe of hours for this. You can find Chia seeds at the glutenfree section of any large supermarket or any health food store. Top it up with the milk of your preference, and leave it overnight to work its magic.
Ingredients
1 cup almond milk (or the milk of your preference like Soy or Camel milk) 2 tablespoons pure honey/ agave syrup/ sweetener of your choice 1/4 cup Chia seeds
Toppings of your choice
Sliced strawberries
Chopped Kiwi
Shredded Coconut Blueberries
Sliced figs
Assorted chopped nuts
Sliced Mango
Dark chocolate shards
Sliced dates
In a medium bowl or a glass jar, mix the milk with the honey and add the chia seeds to this and mix it in well (so that’s 1 part Chia with 4 parts milk). Cover this with a lid and keep it overnight in the refrigerator. In the morning, give it a good stir once again and top off with the fresh fruits. If you wish to serve this as a dessert, you can add a dash of Vanilla essence to the milk. Yes, it’s as simple as that.
This delicious pudding works well as a breakfast, snack or dessert option. I’ve added some more topping options for you to try here, the first is with Goji berries and unsweetened Chocolate chips, doesn’t it look pretty?
When you have guests coming over, spoon the Chia pudding into tall wine glasses, top with pistachios and edible rose petals and serve chilled! Here’s how fresh cut mango looks with the Chia, your guests are going to be mighty impressed!
How about a Chia Pudding breakfast bowl, here scraped up some fresh Vanilla from the pods to enhance the fragrance and topped with my daughters favourite fruit combination- raspberries and blueberries. I give my kids Chia pudding atleast once a week. It’s a healthier option than sugar coated breakfast cereals.
Do you need an Eid festive dessert inspiration ? Try this oh-so-divine topping of- chopped Dates, Cocoa Nibs and Peanut Butter, yeah you’ll thank me for this later I’m sure 🙂
